Our last feature of the year highlights @khmeii & @iamsiobhvn two artist that I had of chance of meeting May of this year. During our time together we connected on the journey of arts, growing up in the Big Apple, and life overall.

In this interview, we speak on the release of their new single, Breathe Me, their rhythm as a duo, and the sacred way creation moves through them. We dig deeper into their individual journeys, honoring where they’ve been, where they’re going, and the sound they’re shaping along the way. A shared breath, a shared vision, right on time.

Earlier this year, I got the chance to take my first solo trip to the Big Apple 🍎✨.

During my short visit, I had some of the BEST tour guides @yannibk and @khemii who made sure I got the real, raw Brooklyn, New York experience! From culture to food, they made sure my 72 hours were unforgettable.

One of my favorite moments was sitting in on a studio session where @khmeii and @iamsiobhvn gave me a special treat, an early listen to their new song “Breath Me” produced by @adrianisntadub dropping next Friday, Oct 31st. 🎶

It’s always an honor to be invited in as a viewer of the process—taking in their lessons, soaking up their energy, and finding new ways to apply it to my own passion projects.

During the session, Khemii and her dream team talked about the life of a creative—and how at the end of the day, the obstacles we face are just small distractions keeping us from the bigger picture.

Brooklyn definitely left its mark on me 🖤

Last Saturday, I had the chance to see @angelicregalia x @marietheefairy very first art exhibition, Lumen’s Gate — a solo exhibition at that.

Jaylin and I have crossed paths many times before, and she’s always carried this dazzling light within her. We had the opportunity to sit and chat last year when she was featured in our second issue, Stage & Canvas: Stories of Local Visionaries. During our discussion, we talked about her upbringing and how being a creative has always been at the forefront of her life. So, when I found out she was hosting her very FIRST solo exhibit, I had to show my support for her journey.

It’s not easy putting yourself out into the world in such a grand way, so to witness her journey firsthand was more than inspiring. I felt a liberating energy take over me, placing me in a space of wanting to create even more. Thank you, Jaylin, for sharing your soul and your light with us. The world needs more of it. SUNNI SOCIETY is curating a coffee table photo book dedicated to capturing the essence of Black faces from the South; past & present. We want to honor the beauty, resilience, and cultural legacy of Southern Black communities though imagery.

Who can submit?
•Photographers (professional & amateur)
•Families with archival images of Southern Black heritage
•Collectors or historians with access to historical imagery

Images can range from vintage family portraits and historical photographs to modern street photography and contemporary portraits. Candid moments, celebrations, everyday life, and artistic interpretations are welcomed!

In January I had the opportunity to visit the GIANTS exhibit during its last weekend at the @highmuseumofart !

I was literally fighting to go! If you missed it you truly did miss out seeing some amazing work from trailblazers in the artistic community. Everything was so profound I can hardly put it into words. Just magical, black girl/boy magic to be exact!

Very grateful that @aliciakeys and @therealswizzz volunteered their personal collection @thedeancollection to be shared with the world! I hope to be able to see these pieces again someday 💛.

This Wednesday I will be attending and vending @themixerintl vinyl party @jbsrecord ! Limited number of magazines on hand. Hope to see some familiar faces. As we enter this new month of the last quarter, I would like to take time out to bring awareness to the intense energy of the world and events that have happened this year and past few days. 2024 has been one filled with loss, heartache, sacrifices…as well as realizing the importance of community, our voices, power in numbers, and love. Even with everything crashing down around us, it’s our responsibility to keep lending a hand when needed and stay resilient throughout it all. It is us who makes OUR world go round. I was able to spend my Tuesday day night with @themixerintl at @jbsrecord! A night filled with soulful music and soulful energy.

There I learned that only 3% of records stores are black owned! For the longest, black people have been at the forefront of the music industry even when we were forced to the back, our influence was TOO strong to go unnoticed. This is why the perseverance of physical media has been my focus lately. It’s up to us to keep supporting our locals in the creative community. The older I get the more I appreciate having access to physical media. There’s no better feeling than thinking about a moment in history and being able to go back to your personal archive of physical media.

Coming from an artistic and musical background, most these exact items mentioned above constantly surrounded me as child. Still till this day, I am able to access a collection of physical media that will eventually be passed down to me.

That’s what physical media is about, being able to pass history down and keeping the stories of people before us alive ☀️.
